What attracted Dutch artists to the capital of France in the 19th century? Find out in the exhibition 'The Dutch in Paris: Breitner, Van Gogh, Mondrian'. On view from 6 October 2017.

6 October 2017 - 7 January 2018

Paris in the 19th century exerted an irresistible attraction on Dutch artists like Jan Sluyters, Kees van Dongen, Piet Mondrian and, of course, Vincent van Gogh. In The Dutch in Paris, the Van Gogh Museum is presenting the first large-scale focus on this unmistakable artistic interaction in Paris between Dutch artists and figures like Picasso and Monet.

The exhibition will highlight the wide-ranging possibilities the city offered for this cultural cross-fertilisation and the impressions the artists took home with them: the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the studios of private teachers, the Salon, the art trade and collectors.
